HOW DO I BOOK MY SESSION?

WHEN SHOULD I BOOK MY SESSION?

To book your session, you'll start by filling out the contact form. Once I know what you're needing, I'll have you select a package, sign your contract, and pay your deposit. Then your session is officially booked and we can start planning!

As soon as you have an idea of when you'd like to have your session, you should book it! I only book a limited number of sessions each month in order to give my very best to my clients, so booking earlier is definitely better!

DO YOU OFFER STUDIO SESSIONS?

ARE ALL OF YOUR SESSIONS OUTDOORS?

I do not offer studio portraits. While studio portraits can be so beautiful, my documentary style of photography doesn’t lend itself to a studio very well. I’m happy to talk with you about how my at-home lifestyle sessions work, though!

While many of my sessions are outdoors, I do offer indoor lifestyle sessions, too! These are sessions in the comfort of your own home. And they're not limited to newborn sessions, either. I do family, maternity, and milestone sessions indoors, too!

WHY ARE SESSIONS SCHEDULED CLOSE TO SUNSET?

WHAT HAPPENS IF OUR SESSION GETS RAINED OUT?

The time around sunset is known as the “Golden Hour” for photography. The light takes on a softer, more golden color that photographs really beautifully. Gone are the harsh, midday shadows, replaced instead with a warmer, more diffuse light that creates creamy skin tones and beautiful colors.

Reschedules due to weather are free! I don’t want something as unpredictable as the weather to be a stressor leading up to your session. We’ll keep in touch and watch the weather carefully. If we need to call it, we’ll immediately schedule a back-up date.

WHERE DO OUTDOOR SESSIONS TAKE PLACE?

HELP! WHAT SHOULD WE WEAR FOR OUR SESSION?

If you don't already have a place in mind, then I'm happy to go location scouting and find the perfect place for your session. There are farms, parks, and urban areas I love, so depending on the look and feel you want, I'm happy to give you some suggestions for local locations!

Selecting outfits for the whole family is suuuuuper challenging, but I LOVE helping clients with that! All of my packages include access to an online, customized styling service called Style & Select, my Client Guide includes a ton of tips for wardrobe, and I'm always available to give specific feedback.

WHAT IF MY HOUSE ISN'T "PINTEREST PERFECT?"

DO ALL OF YOUR PACKAGES INCLUDE THE DIGITAL IMAGES?

If you are thinking about an at-home lifestyle session, but concerned that your house isn't "Pinterest perfect," PLEASE don't be! It doesn't need to look like all of those (unrealistic) homes you see online. Plus, YOU are the focus of your photographs, not your house.

Yes! I would honestly not want to hire a photographer who made me pay to have all of the finished images from my session in addition to the session fee, so I made sure that all of my packages include the digital files of your finished images. You will receive both high-resolution files for printing, and web-sized files for social media sharing.

SHOULD I BRING SOMEONE ALONG TO HELP WITH THE KIDS?

WHAT HAPPENS IF THE KIDS DON'T COOPERATE?

While it seems like a good idea in theory, I actually don’t recommend it. Extra people at the session tend to be a distraction for the kids, and it draws focus away from your family. I’m confident that we’ll have fun and get all of the beautiful photographs we need without an extra pair of hands.

First, I have 3 kids of my own and I know that kids don’t always cooperate when you want them to - especially under pressure. I recommend approaching your session in a low-stress way. I assure you, I’ll have prompts and ideas for getting those natural interactions. And I am like a sneaky ninja, getting those shots when the kids finally let their guard down.

DO YOU USE PROPS IN YOUR SESSIONS?

CAN I BRING MY PET TO MY SESSION?

Other than a blanket for your family to sit on, I don’t typically bring props. I welcome you to bring any special props to the session that you would like included. And, of course, bring along your young kiddos’ favorite stuffed animals for an adventure, too. Mostly, though, your family is the feature of your photographs.

I love to include pets in sessions! When we’re planning your session, be sure to let me know you’re interested in including your pet(s) and we’ll chat about the location and logistics to make it happen!

Editing & Archiving

CAN I HAVE THE RAW FILES TO EDIT MYSELF?

WILL YOU EDIT EVERY SINGLE PHOTO YOU TAKE?

No, I never turn over unedited RAW files to clients. First, it's a violation of my copyright for clients to alter their photographs in any way. Second, my editing style is part of my art. Hopefully you're hiring me because you love my work, and how I edit your images is a huge part my style.

No, I will not. The first thing I do after uploading your images is cull them. I discard photos that have blinking, weaker composition, and duplicates. Your finished gallery will include only the best, most beautiful photographs. But those final images will be fully-edited.

WHAT IF I DON'T WANT TO PURCHASE PRINTS & WALL ART?

WHAT IS YOUR EDITING STYLE?

That’s okay! If you don’t want to purchase professional prints through me, you will have your digital files and be able to either just use the digitals online or take the high-resolution files and print your photographs somewhere else. Please note, however, that I cannot guarantee the quality and color of your prints if you choose to print elsewhere.

I love rich, warm photographs, clean edits, and creamy skin tones. I want your finished images to look like they did in real life, only...better. I deepen the tones, add depth, and pull up the warmth. I don’t add anything to the images that wasn't already there. I just enhance the natural beauty that already exists.

WHAT DO YOU DO TO ENSURE MY DIGITAL FILES ARE SAFE?

DO YOU PERMANENTLY ARCHIVE SESSION IMAGES?

Until I deliver your gallery to you, I always keep your photos in 2 places. During your session, I shoot onto 2 memory cards simultaneously. After uploading them onto my computer, I immediately back them up onto an external hard drive. I do keep them on my EHD, even after delivering the images to you. However, once the files have been delivered, it is up to you to permanently archive them.

No, I do not permanently store your images. I don’t have a set length of time for how long I’ll keep your images and I do store them on external hard drives. But because hard drives eventually fail, I make no promise to keep them after delivering the files to you. I strongly recommend that you back up your images for safekeeping in addition to printing them so you have a hard copy.
